How to Care for 4C Hair in Winter

Why winter is different for 4C hair
Cold outdoor air typically holds less moisture, and indoor heating dries the air further. For tightly coiled 4C hair — where natural scalp oils already travel slowly down the strand — this combination can leave hair feeling dry, rough and harder to manage. Add hats, scarves and high collars, and you have friction at the very places hair is most fragile: edges and ends.
Start with a gentler cleanse
Winter is not the season for stripping cleansers. A hydrating, sulfate-free shampoo like ZURI GUARD Moisturizing Shampoo cleanses the scalp while respecting the moisture your hair is working hard to hold onto. Focus the lather on the scalp and let it rinse through the lengths rather than scrubbing the ends.
Condition like you mean it
Follow every wash with a slip-rich conditioner — detangle in sections, with patience, using a wide-tooth comb. Once a week, upgrade to a deep treatment such as ZURI GUARD Hair Mask for more restorative care.
Hydrate, then seal
The two-step that carries a winter routine: apply a leave-in (ZURI GUARD Leave-In Cream) to damp hair, then seal with a few drops of oil. Hydration first, seal second — the oil helps slow down moisture loss in dry air.
Protect what you've built
Protective styles shine in winter, but only if the hair underneath is moisturised first. Line hats with satin where possible, refresh edges with a balm stick after removing layers, and give your scalp a cooling mist when indoor heating leaves it feeling tight.
